Instead of forcing equipment into a fixed piping gap, a correctly selected dismantling joint allows the installation length to be adjusted within its designed range. How Dismantling Joints Solve Installation Problems

Flanged equipment often requires accurate face-to-face positioning. In an existing pipeline, small dimensional differences, limited installation clearance or equipment replacement can make flange alignment difficult.

Engineering & Installation Considerations

A dismantling joint should be selected according to the required installation length, adjustment range, pressure class and connection standard. It should not be used to correct major pipe misalignment or an unsuitable piping layout.

Connected piping and equipment should be properly supported. Bolts and restraint components should be installed and adjusted according to the selected joint design so that the completed connection operates as intended.

For replacement projects, provide the existing face-to-face dimensions, flange details and photographs or drawings of the installation position. These details help determine whether the replacement joint will fit the available space before production.

Metal Bellows Expansion Joints for Thermal Movement

Metal bellows expansion joints are used to accommodate thermal expansion, contraction and controlled movement in HVAC, water, steam and industrial piping systems. A correctly selected metal expansion joint allows the pipeline to absorb defined axial or lateral displacement while helping reduce excessive stress on connected piping and equipment.

Thermal movement should be evaluated as part of the complete piping system. Pipe length, temperature change, movement direction, pressure, anchors, guides and installation arrangement all affect the expansion joint selection.

How Thermal Expansion Affects Piping

As pipeline temperature changes, the pipe expands or contracts. In a long or constrained piping system, this thermal growth can generate significant forces at equipment nozzles, valves, supports and other fixed points if the movement is not properly controlled.

A metal bellows expansion joint introduces a designed flexible section into the pipeline. The corrugated metal bellows can absorb specified movement so that thermal growth is managed at a controlled location rather than being transferred directly to connected equipment or rigid piping.

Engineering & Installation Considerations

Metal bellows expansion joints must work together with the piping system’s anchors and guides. The joint should not be treated as an independent component that can correct an unsuitable pipe layout.

Internal pressure can generate pressure thrust, while thermal movement creates displacement that must be directed according to the system design. Anchor positions, guide locations and movement direction should therefore be reviewed before the expansion joint is selected.

The expansion joint should not be used to support unsupported pipe weight or to force incorrectly aligned piping into position. Excessive movement, torsion or an incorrect restraint arrangement can reduce service reliability.

Flexible Metal Hoses for Equipment Connections

Flexible metal hoses provide flexible connections between pumps, compressors, mechanical equipment and rigid piping. Stainless steel flexible metal hose assemblies can accommodate controlled movement, vibration and installation offset while helping reduce mechanical loads transferred between equipment and connected pipework.

Rubber Expansion Joints for Pump Vibration Control

Rubber expansion joints help reduce pump vibration, structure-borne noise and piping stress in HVAC, water and industrial piping systems. Installed between rotating equipment and rigid pipework, a rubber flexible joint provides a flexible connection that helps isolate vibration while accommodating limited designed movement and installation misalignment.

How the Solution Works

Pumps and other rotating equipment can transmit mechanical vibration into connected piping. With a rigid connection, vibration and dynamic loads may travel through flanges, pipe supports and adjacent equipment, increasing noise, mechanical stress and maintenance risk.
