Project Configuration

Mingchao can customize the product configuration based on the technical information, operating conditions and dimensional data you provide. Final configuration can be reviewed and manufactured to the approved project drawing.

Buried Protective Cover for Rubber Expansion Joints — Overview

The Mingchao Buried Protective Cover isolates a rubber expansion joint from direct soil contact, backfill and external ground loading while preserving the clearance required for the joint’s designed movement. Each cover is configured around the installed rubber joint, pipe geometry, burial depth and project loading conditions rather than selected as a generic one-size accessory.

This is a protective enclosure, not a device that rigidly fixes the flexible rubber body.

Why Buried Rubber Joints Need Earth Protection

Direct backfill against a flexible rubber body can obstruct movement and expose the joint to soil, groundwater and external loads. A properly configured cover creates an isolated envelope around the installed joint. Soil should not be backfilled directly against the flexible rubber body.

Two-Piece Protective Cover Construction

The catalog shows a two-piece, half-circular hollow-cylinder construction assembled around the rubber joint and its flanges. The final cover diameter, length, supports, bolting and material are governed by the approved installation drawing.

Maintaining the Rubber Joint Movement Envelope

The internal envelope must accommodate the host joint, flange envelope and required axial, lateral and angular movement without contact that blocks the intended motion. The cover preserves clearance; it does not stop joint movement.

Engineering ReviewRequired

All dimensions and structural conditions are project-specific; approved drawings and engineering review govern manufacture.

Burial Depth, Soil & Groundwater Conditions

Provide burial depth, soil and backfill description, groundwater condition and drainage information. These conditions affect support height, coating, access and the engineering review.

External Loads & Surface Surcharge

Vehicle loading, surface surcharge, storage loads and other external loads must be stated. No universal allowable load is published; structural adequacy requires project-specific engineering.

Custom Cover Diameter, Length & Support Height

Mingchao can customize cover diameter, cover length, support height, internal clearance, host-joint envelope, material, coating, bolting and mounting geometry to an approved customer or project drawing. Custom geometry does not imply unlimited structural or operating performance.

Material & Corrosion Protection

Cover material, thickness where defined, anti-corrosion coating, assembly bolts and exposure protection are selected for the burial environment and approved drawing. Service life depends on material, corrosion protection, burial environment, groundwater, external load, installation quality and maintenance; no fixed service-life warranty is stated.

Installation Around the Existing Rubber Expansion Joint

Confirm the host joint position and movement envelope before assembly. Center the joint within the cover, assemble the two cover halves without contacting the flexible body, maintain the approved support geometry, complete the specified corrosion protection, and backfill without displacing the enclosure. The cover must not carry pipe or equipment loads unless the engineered design expressly provides for them.

Inspection, Access & Location Identification

Provide inspection access where the project requires it and identify the buried location using the project’s approved marker system. Access, drainage and future removal requirements should be resolved before backfilling.

Information Required for Engineering & Quotation

Send Joint Dimensions & Burial Depth. Provide the host joint model and DN/NPS, face-to-face and overall envelope, flange OD, required movement, burial depth, soil/backfill, groundwater, surface surcharge, external loads, material/coating, access needs, quantity and the installation drawing. Mingchao can custom build the cover after drawing and engineering review.
