Project Configuration

Mingchao can customize the product configuration based on the technical information, operating conditions and dimensional data you provide. Final configuration can be reviewed and manufactured to the approved project drawing.

Flexible Metal Hose Assemblies Overview

The Mingchao Flexible Metal Hose Assembly range is designed for project-specific flexible connections between piping, mechanical equipment and process systems.

A complete assembly combines the selected flexible metal hose with the required reinforcement, overall length and End A / End B connections.

Rather than treating every installation as one fixed catalog item, the assembly can be configured around the actual pressure, temperature, medium, movement, routing and mating connection requirements.

Mingchao can manufacture project-specific flexible metal hose configurations based on confirmed customer requirements, drawings or replacement assembly information.

Hose, Braid & Assembly Construction

A typical flexible metal hose assembly may combine:

  • a corrugated flexible metal hose;
  • external braid where required by the selected design;
  • connection necks or adapters;
  • End A fitting;
  • End B fitting;
  • welded connection components;
  • the required flexible length and overall assembly length.

The corrugated hose provides flexibility. Where braid is used, it reinforces the hose and helps restrain pressure-induced elongation.

The final hose, braid, fittings and welds should be treated as one complete assembly. Depending on the project requirements, different hose sizes, braid configurations, materials and end connections can be reviewed before production.

Custom End A & End B Connection Options

Flexible metal hose assemblies are often selected according to the exact piping or equipment interfaces on both ends. End A and End B can be specified independently.

Common project configurations may include flanged, grooved, threaded, welded pipe or adapter connections, plus other project-specific fittings subject to technical confirmation.

For each end, provide the nominal size, connection type, mating standard or dimensions, flange drilling / groove / thread information where applicable, and the equipment or piping interface drawing.

Do not assume that End A and End B must be identical. Do not assume compatibility from nominal hose size alone.

Overall Length Manufactured to confirmed project requirement
End A Flange / Groove / Thread / Other confirmed fitting
End B Flange / Groove / Thread / Other confirmed fitting

Materials, Pressure & Temperature Selection

Flexible metal hose assembly capability depends on the complete selected configuration rather than one isolated maximum value.

Important factors include hose material and diameter, braid material and configuration, braid layers where applicable, end-fitting material, operating pressure, operating temperature, process medium, overall length, movement or vibration, and static or dynamic service.

Existing Mingchao flexible metal hose products document stainless-steel component options including SS304, SS316 and SS316L. For a custom assembly, the final hose, braid and fitting material combination should be confirmed against the actual medium, pressure and temperature.

Operating pressure and temperature are configuration-dependent. The maximum pressure and maximum temperature from different configurations should never be assumed to apply simultaneously unless confirmed for the selected assembly.

Documented Mingchao Hose Configurations

Mingchao currently has documented flexible metal hose products covering both general industrial stainless-steel hose applications and grooved-end piping connections. These products can help identify the closest starting configuration for a custom hose assembly.

Important: The specifications below belong to the individual documented Mingchao products and should not be interpreted as universal limits for every custom Flexible Metal Hose Assembly.

How to Specify a Custom Metal Hose Assembly

Provide the following information for configuration review and quotation:

  1. Required application.
  2. Hose type, if already specified.
  3. Nominal size / hose inside diameter.
  4. Required overall assembly length.
  5. Flexible hose length, if separately specified.
  6. Design pressure.
  7. Normal working pressure.
  8. Operating temperature.
  9. Process medium.
  10. Required movement / lateral offset / vibration condition.
  11. Static or dynamic service.
  12. Installation orientation and available space.
  13. End A connection and dimensions.
  14. End B connection and dimensions.
  15. Required hose / braid / fitting material.
  16. Braid configuration if specified.
  17. Quantity and destination country.
  18. Existing drawing, sample or product photograph for replacement assemblies.

For replacement assemblies, a dimensional drawing, clear photographs or a physical sample can significantly improve connection and overall-length verification.

Testing, Inspection & Project Documentation

Testing and documentation requirements should be identified before production, particularly for industrial, EPC and replacement projects.

Depending on the project and confirmed manufacturing scope, requirements may include dimensional inspection, visual inspection, pressure or leak testing, material documentation, connection verification, welding inspection or related manufacturing records, product identification, project-specific inspection records, and packing or shipment documentation.

The required test method, test pressure, acceptance criteria and documentation package must be confirmed for each order.

Flexible Metal Hose vs. Metal Bellows Expansion Joint

Selection Point Flexible Metal Hose Assembly Metal Bellows Expansion Joint
Main Role Flexible piping / equipment connection Engineered pipeline movement compensation
Flexible Element Corrugated hose Bellows element
Selection Focus Length, routing, bend radius, pressure, temperature, End A and End B Movement, pressure, anchors, guides and piping design
Direct Axial Compression Do not use a straight braided hose as a short axial compensator Can be specifically engineered for axial movement depending on design
Typical Configuration Straight assembly / routed assembly / engineered hose geometry Axial / lateral / angular expansion-joint design

A flexible metal hose assembly should not be selected as a short substitute for a bellows expansion joint.

Installation & Routing Considerations

The selected hose geometry, routing and support arrangement must be confirmed as part of the complete assembly design.

Prevent Twisting

Do not twist the assembly.

No Axial Fit-Up

Do not force a straight hose into axial compression or extension.

Flexible Length

Use sufficient flexible length.

Bend Radius

Observe the minimum bend radius of the selected hose.

Protect End Fittings

Avoid sharp bends directly adjacent to fittings.

Service Type

Distinguish static and dynamic service.

Movement Plane

Keep repeated movement within the intended plane where applicable.

End Alignment

Align End A and End B correctly.

Independent Support

Support connected piping and equipment independently.

Avoid External Weight

Do not allow equipment weight to load the hose incorrectly.

Protect Hose and Braid

Protect corrugation and braid against impact and abrasion.

Protect Connections

Protect weld and fitting areas.

Confirm Conditions

Confirm pressure, temperature and medium before installation.

Inspect Before Service

Inspect hose, braid, fittings and weld areas before service.
